Mount Hermon Cabernet Sauvignon (750ml)
Delivery across New York City: $5 in Crown Heights, $10 in Brooklyn, $20 in the rest of NYC. Free pickup at 511 Empire Blvd.
Mount Hermon is Golan Heights Winery's everyday label, from the same house that makes Yarden. The fruit comes off vineyards on the Golan Heights, the high, cool corner of the Galilee that made Israeli wine worth taking seriously.
Mood: Fresh, medium, drinkable.
Sommelier's note
"The bottle you buy by the case because it never asks for an occasion."
Tasting notes
Ripe cherry and raspberry on the nose, with cocoa, spice and a hint of herb and green pepper. The palate is medium bodied with clear varietal character and real drinkability. It finishes clean and fruit-led rather than heavy.
Pairing
An easy Shabbos red that suits roast chicken as well as brisket, and does not overpower a dairy-free kugel or a plate of grilled vegetables. Good with burgers and weeknight food too.
