Twin Suns Special Edition Whiskey-Aged Old Vine Zinfandel (750ml)
(1)Delivery across New York City: $5 in Crown Heights, $10 in Brooklyn, $20 in the rest of NYC. Free pickup at 511 Empire Blvd.
The whiskey-aged kosher conversation started with Twin Suns Special Edition. It is Old-Vine Lodi Zinfandel finished in empty sorghum whiskey barrels, which Rabbi Rabinowitz of the OU sourced. Expect char, smoke, dried herbs, and vanilla. It is mevushal and kosher for Passover, and there is nothing else like it.
Mood: Smoky, spicy, singular.
Sommelier’s note
“This bottle turns a Shabbos meal into a story, with old-vine zinfandel in sorghum whiskey barrels. Its mevushal status means it can pour at any table.”
Tasting notes
Out of the glass come char, smoke, dried herbs, and vanilla, with warm baking spice underneath. It is rich and layered. Old-vine zinfandel richness carries the middle, and caramel and maple from the whiskey barrels weave through it. The finish is long, smoky, and warm, and the whiskey influence lingers well past the pour.
Pairing
It was made for smoked brisket, cholent, roast lamb, or a bourbon-glazed short rib. A dark chocolate dessert is a beautiful match as well.
