This is the mevushal house red from Psagot, a Cabernet-Shiraz blend grown in the Judean Hills. It is built to be poured all night at a simcha with nobody watching the bottle.
Mood: Sheva brachos, bar mitzvah kiddush, the table where the waiter is going to be the one pouring.
Our sommelier says
Bright ruby in color. On the nose it leans toward red and dark cherry, with a peppery lift from the Shiraz sitting over the blackcurrant core of the Cabernet. The palate is medium-to-full and balanced, with forward fruit and tannin that is already integrated, so it can be drunk now with no ceremony. It is mevushal under Badatz Edah HaChareidis, which means it can be poured into every guest's cup at a simcha and remain the same wine. An honest red from the Judean Hills at a sensible price.
Tasting notes
Blackcurrant and red cherry with soft cedar and black pepper. Balanced fruit, a peppery lift, integrated tannin, medium-to-full. A gentle echo of pepper, and clean.
Food pairing
Serve it at simcha buffets, or with Friday-night brisket, grilled chicken, lamb kebabs, or hard cheese (after the wait).
