Malbec is a South American grape and a less-common kosher varietal. Mony grows its Reserve Malbec in the Judean foothills and gives it fourteen months in French oak.
Mood: The Argentine-Malbec drinker who didn't know it came kosher. The Shabbos table that wants to step off the Cabernet-Merlot path.
Our sommelier says
In the glass it is dense and deep red. Ripe, assertive aromas of black plum and dark berry sit over smoked wood spice picked up in French barrel. You get the plummy weight Malbec is known for, and the Judean foothill fruit gives a slightly cooler structural lift than Argentine versions of the grape do. It is full-bodied, the mid-palate rich with restrained oak, and fourteen months in barrel have settled the tannin into balance. The finish is deep and long. Give it thirty minutes in a decanter. It drinks well now with serious food.
Tasting notes
Dark berry and black plum, with smoked wood spice and soft vanilla. Rich mid-palate, full body, a ripe fruit core and settled tannin. Deep, long and spice-driven.
Food pairing
Lamb shoulder, grilled steak, beef brisket or sausages, a Yom Tov seudah, and hard cheese (after the wait).
