Michel Murciano's reserve bottling is Syrah from the hills around Hevron, grown at 950 meters and given twenty months in new French and American oak.
Mood: The serious Israeli red on the table. The guest who already knows Israeli wine and wants the reserve tier.
Our sommelier says
The color is deep purple and nearly opaque. Cassis and spicy plum come first on the nose, with layers of black pepper, smoke, and the soft vanillin signature that two years in new barrels leaves. Since it is non-filtered, the palate is textured and dense, full in body with fine tannin, and the dark fruit and savory spice are in even balance. For all the ripeness, the high-elevation Hevron fruit keeps the alcohol composed. Give it thirty minutes in a decanter. It is made for serious food and can take a few more years in the cellar.
Tasting notes
Spicy plum and cassis, with smoke, black pepper and soft vanilla. Dense and full in body, with a dark fruit core, savory spice and fine tannin. Composed, smoky and long.
Food pairing
Lamb shoulder, standing rib roast, slow-braised short ribs, or a Yom Tov seudah worthy of the reserve bottle.
