Michel Murciano's Jerusalem Heights label is a Bordeaux-style Cabernet-Merlot from the mountains around Jerusalem, grown at 900 meters and kept eighteen months in new oak.
Mood: The serious Shabbos table. The guest who wants Old World style from Israeli soil. The Yom Tov seudah that warrants the cellar pick.
Our sommelier says
It is non-filtered and deep ruby-purple, and it has weight in the glass. On the nose, dark fruit and lush cherry are layered over black pepper, chocolate, and the aromatic spice signature left by eighteen months in new French and American oak. The structure comes from the Cabernet, and Merlot rounds out the mid-palate. It is full-bodied, with the dense, slightly chewy texture that non-filtration gives a serious red. The finish is spice-driven and long. Give it thirty minutes in a decanter. It is made to hold in the cellar.
Tasting notes
Dark fruit and lush cherry, with black pepper, chocolate and aromatic spice. Dense and full in body, oak-integrated, with ripe tannin and a chewy texture. Composed, spicy and long.
Food pairing
Lamb shoulder, standing rib roast, slow-braised short ribs, a Yom Tov seudah, or aged hard cheese (after the wait).
