Clos de Torribas Crianza (750ml)
Delivery across New York City: $5 in Crown Heights, $10 in Brooklyn, $20 in the rest of NYC. Free pickup at 511 Empire Blvd.
Bodegas Pinord makes this Crianza from 100% Tempranillo grown on their Vilafranca del Penedès estate, and it is bottled in Catalonia instead of the more familiar Rioja. With Crianza ageing in oak, it is the dry, structured red that the kiddush table reaches for when the brisket is on the carving board.
Mood: Dark fruit, Shabbos meat.
Tasting notes
Black cherry and dried plum on the nose, with a leathery oak edge that comes from the Crianza barrel time. It is savory and medium-bodied on the palate, showing cassis, baking spice, and a thread of dried herb. The finish is grippy and dry, and its fine-grained tannin lifts the food.
Food pairing
Made for a meat Shabbos: brisket, short ribs, cholent, lamb shoulder. It wants char and fat, so skip it with fish.
