Cignozza Peregrinus Toscana (750ml)
Delivery across New York City: $5 in Crown Heights, $10 in Brooklyn, $20 in the rest of NYC. Free pickup at 511 Empire Blvd.
La Cignozza makes Peregrinus as an IGT Sangiovese in the super-Tuscan style. It sits outside the DOCG rulebook, which lets the family chase depth and modern polish. It is 100% Sangiovese with a longer maceration, and more concentrated than the Chianti bottlings.
Mood: Polished, modern, bigger.
Tasting notes
Black cherry and ripe plum come with mocha, dried herbs, and a wisp of cedar. The style is concentrated and modern, full-bodied with a plush mid-palate and fine-grained tannins. It is polished and long, and dark cherry and spice carry through.
Food pairing
Pair it with grilled ribeye, wild mushroom risotto, lamb shoulder, slow-cooked short ribs, or hard aged Italian cheeses.
