Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte - Library Wine Collection

Smith Haut Lafitte, or SHL as it is commonly referred to, is a Cru Classe from the region of Pessac Leognan in Graves. It is one of the few Chateaus that produces both red and white wines. The summer of 1995 in Bordeaux was particularly hot. This sped up the ripening time for the grapes and most chateaus harvested their crop in September, which added to the tannic structure of the wines. As wines age and the tannins smooth out the flavors that surface are the ones coveted by Bordeaux collectors, flavors like leather, smoky cigar box, tobacco, crushed forest floor, and mushroom - the 1995 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte has all of that.
