This kosher Côtes de Bordeaux comes from Chateau Lafitte. It is not the Pauillac First Growth, but an honest Right Bank-style cuvee that is priced for everyday drinking.
Mood: The midweek Shabbos table. The guest who wants French wine without classed-growth pricing. The bottle that pours easy and goes with the brisket.
Our sommelier says
The colour is medium ruby. The nose is friendly and led by fruit, with plum, black cherry, a wisp of cedar and soft cocoa. Merlot leads on a plush mid-palate, and Cabernet Sauvignon supplies the structural spine. It has medium body and rounded tannin, and the oak frames the wine rather than dominating it. The finish is clean and gently savory. This is everyday Bordeaux done right. It is approachable now, needs no decant, and is designed to be drunk with food at a reasonable price.
Tasting notes
Black cherry and plum, then cocoa and soft cedar. Medium in body, with rounded tannin, led by fruit and framed by oak. Gently savory, clean.
Food pairing
Serve with roast chicken, Friday-night brisket, mushroom dishes, pasta with meat sauce, hard cheese (after the wait), or at a Shabbos seudah.
